St Michael's Long Day Care Centre
Philosophy - "Young Children Learn What They Live", so we aim to provide an environment that will assist your children to grow into friendly, inquisitive and confident human beings.
St Michael's Long Day Care Centre is a not-for-profit service, which provides care and education to 36 children per day between the ages of two and five years. It has been operating since 1978.
We are a licensed child care centre and an accredited child care service through the National Childcare Accreditation Council receiving the highest level of accreditation for providing quality care and education. We are also supported by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.
We provide healthy and delicious meals, freshly prepared and cooked on a daily basis by trained and qualified cooks. We also cater for children with special dietary requirements, e.g. allergies, vegetarian and cultural preferences.
Child Care Benefit is available, with eligible families able to apply for the Child Care Rebate. Further information can be obtained from www.deewr.gov.au or the Family Assistance Office on telephone 13 6150.
We maintain a waiting list and do not charge a waiting list fee.
We are open Mondays to Fridays from 7:30am to 5:30pm, and from December 2010 will be open for 50 weeks per year, closing over the Christmas/New Year period and public holidays.

Program Description
We offer a comprehensive program, based on best practice in early childhood education. Our qualified staff members have developed a program which meets the individual needs of your child, including those with specific developmental needs.
- two class groups, consisting of a class of 16 children (the Possum Room accommodates children aged 2 – 3 ½ years) and a class of 20 children (the Wombat Room accommodates children aged 3 ½ - 5 years).
- a comprehensive school readiness curriculum, which includes a close partnership with local primary schools assisting children and families with their transition to kindergarten.
detailed developmental portfolios are maintained for every child. - an excellent Spanish language program which teaches the children basic conversational Spanish, counting, colours, shapes and lots more.
- educational and entertaining incursions (children's shows) and visits from local community agencies such as, Fire Brigade, Police and Postal workers.
- an enormous outdoor learning environment consisting of natural grass, walking trails, bike track, sandpit, shaded covered play areas, vegetable garden, a child friendly compost/worm farm system and plants selected to simulate the children's senses (The produce grown is regularly incorporated into the children's meals).
