Family Support Services
Early Intervention Services
The Brighter Futures Program provides a voluntary intensive family support program for up to two years for families with children aged between birth and eight years, or expecting a baby.
You may be able to join the program, if you are facing domestic and family violence; drug and alcohol problems; mental health issues; significant learning difficulties; and child behaviour management problems.
We have been involved in the Brighter Futures Program since 2006, as part of a consortium with Wesley Mission.
How does the Brighter Futures Program work?
Each family is supported by a Family Case Worker who will be able to find services and support that is right for your family, including:
- home visiting
Your Family Case Worker can meet with you in the privacy of your own home or in a place of safety. You can get help and talk about problems that every parent faces when raising young children.
- access to parenting programs
You can meet with other parents and learn ways to help manage your children's behaviour or where necessary, your Family Case Worker can work one-on-one with you.
- access to quality children's services
Your child can be cared for by qualified staff in a child care centre or in a home based setting. You can also attend a supported playgroup in your local area.
How can I get involved?
There are two ways to become involved in the program:
With your permission, a community agency can refer you, or
A report may have been received at the Community Services Helpline that suggests your family may benefit from the program.
What happens next?
We will talk to you about what you want to achieve for your family and how we can help you. You are the expert when it comes to your family.
If you think that it would be helpful, we will talk with other services, other members of your family or people you know, with your permission. Your privacy will be protected once in the program and you will be involved in all decisions.
Together we will plan a package and link your family to services and support that you may need. We will visit you on a regular basis to discuss how the program is working. If anything changes, we can arrange other types of support.
