This service is named in honour of Mother Mary Clare Dunphy rsm who brought the Sisters of Mercy to Parramatta from Callan, County Kilkenny, Ireland in 1888.
Clare Residence is a simple comfortable building and was originally a convent for the Sisters of Mercy Parramatta. In recent years, it has been part of the complex at St Michael's Family Centre and caters for people in need.
This building now provides low cost short-term accommodation for people with family members in hospital and other negotiated arrangements, including short-term accommodation for refugees and asylum seekers, and others in need. Priority is given to individuals or families from rural areas.
The building comprises seven bedrooms, which can accommodate individuals or families. A lounge, fully equipped kitchen, bathrooms and laundry are on a share basis. All linen and towels are provided.
Costs vary depending on the size of the room. Weekly rates are available. Please contact us for current rates.
Child care is available via our varied children's services for children aged from 0-12 years, whilst families stay at Clare Residence.
Our service is conveniently located approximately 15 minutes drive from Westmead Hospital. Parking is available on site for residents. Buses are available to Parramatta, connecting to Westmead Hospital.
